Explanation of Common Problems

There are many circumstances where a station may not be working. RealPlayer is dependent on the broadcaster's server, the Internet, and the speed of the your Internet connection. This allows for possible problems to occur.
 
Common problems are when:
  1. A station does not broadcast 24 hours a day (M-F, weekends only, or certain hours of the day)
  2. College breaks for college stations
  3. Internet congestion
  4. Proxy misconfiguration
  5. The broadcaster has changed the Web address of the broadcast and vTuner has the old address.
Most of these problems can be resolved by or explained with vTuner. If a station does not broadcast 24/7 a note will be present next to the Play button. Incorrect Web addresses are resolved with frequent updates and checks of the vTuner list. If a station is consistently working or works only once in a while, that is reflected in the Reliability Rating for that station. No station works all the time and this rating helps set the correct expectation if the station will work or not.
 
Notice the picture below, Radio Woodstock will work more often than Star FM due to the Reliability Ratings of the stations.



The rating is computed by constantly checking all of the vTuner stations for consistency.
 
vTuner's MediaSureTM technology

vTuner's MediaSureTM proprietary distribution and quality control technology always keeps vTuner's station database current, and working. The stations are always changing and so must the database, which must be distributed in an efficient manner. To insure quality control the stations are regularly tested, with additions and removals of stations automatically submitted to the database.
When MediaSureTM tests each broadcast, it collects important data such as RealPlayer codec used, and the bandwidth output of the station. Results are then tabulated and then given a rating for the appropriate category. This assures the user the ability to see how reliable stations are and to see what format and bandwidth each station uses for it's broadcast. Both of these tasks are invisible to the user, and only see the working stations and quality information on the broadcasts.
